Full length back bar shelving, designed, manufactured and installed at the Rep Theatre, in Dundee.

The shelving is composed of three framework units, built from copper pipe and fittings, birch plywood shelving and fixed to the bar and wall with custom plates.

Clark and Lake is an independent and intimate charcuterie restaurant/bar in Tollcross, Edinburgh, near the Kings Theatre.  

Our work takes rustic farmhouse styles and colours, and mixes them with industrial materials to create a unique aesthetic, notably in the two matching units at the back of the restaurant.

The shelving unit at the back houses wine and beer fridges discretely, also providing ample storage space serving utensils. The shelving is constructed from scaffolding joints, steel tubing and recycled scaffolding boards. The two units connect via two cross beams, which allow dried meats to be hung from them for display. 

This commission features the biggest table we have built to date. (2.3 metres). The table top is manufactured from Ash, and is edged with Meranti. The table is stained darker to match the bar's interior. The framework for the table is built from scaffolding poles to compliment the bar's back bar gantry. The table is accompanied by 9 stools. 

The back bar gantry framework is constructed from galvanised tubing and various tube Clamps. Veneered boards that also match the bar exterior are used for the shelving and finished with warm LED lighting. The material choices were chosen because they co exist with the bar's current industrial styled interior, yet still make an aesthetic statement. 

Konbo is bringing Japanese arcade culture to Edinburgh in a comfortable café setting.

The overall aim of our work was to create pieces that touch on Japanese styles, yet in a very minimal way.

Our counter unit is built with a beech top and solid beech cladding. The cladding features traditional Japanese burning techniques which create a beautiful contrasting feature between burnt and natural timber.

We also built bespoke solid beech benches with turned beech legs. These were designed in both backed and backless styles.

Roots provided the table tops, booth tables, bar top and display boxes for the interior walls.

These tables are manufactured for Bird & Bear, Dundee.

The tops are manufactured with Ash, that has a dark stain, with beautiful copper edging. The edging is attached using copper pins, and folds under the top. Various processes are then used to remove any sharpness, and to improve the overall smoothness of the table top's shape.

The tables have been manufactured in various sizes, from rounds, rectangles, squares and rounded rectangles, to meet the client's needs. The tables have an industry standard AC lacquer finish. 

Mas Mexicana is an Authentic Mexican tapas bar serving mouthwatering street food and drinks.

The restaurant interior is styled with some traditional Mexican style features. These include corrugated iron sheets on the bar roof, and also using materials such as steel tubing and OSB boards.

Roots manufactured all the table tops,  a poser table with scaffolding framework, and a window table. All main restaurant tables were supplied with a burnt finish, and also industry standard AC lacquer coating.

In addition to tables, Roots produced the two wall seating units. One unit was a straight against the mezzanine level wall, and the other an L-shape booth in the centre of the ground floor. The seating is upholstered in a striking coloured vinyl, with capping and end plates being manufactured from OSB boards.

Copper Pipe is beautiful, right?

In many houses, space can be a premium. This commission focuses on utilising a narrow but tall space by the entrance to the house. The result is this beautiful Birch Plywood unit, with copper pipes forming the shelves, and other features including a coat rail. 

A teak and copper bench was built to provide a seating area, and a striking contrast to the plywood. 

Seen here are our furniture pieces for an outdoor balcony area, commissioned by The Newport Hotel. The commission features 6 benches, and 3 tables. The bench frames are made from Larch sleepers, cut, shaped and jointed in our factory. The benches also feature padded vinyl seat pads, that can be removed for cleaning, repair or replacement. 

To finish the benches, we burned the frames before applying coats of exterior varnish. The tables were inspired by The Newport's bar interior. The tables are comprised of a slate top, formerly part of an old snooker table, that where cut to size and sealed. They sit upon a metal base, that were made locally in Newport, and finished in our factory. 

The hotel is situated in the quayside area of Dundee’s waterfront, and this provided the starting point for the design. The benches had to be weather proof, and resistant to the damp caused by the waterfront location. The inspiration for materials was also influenced by the hotel’s exterior which is cladded with a black finished timber, and lots of steelwork.

Metal ends were to be constructed from flat bar and welded together to provide support and stability. The ends were galvanised to provide maximum weatherproofing and a beautiful ageing effect over time.

Larch was chosen for the beams as it is an excellent outdoor timber. Once planed and cut into lengths, each beam was burned, washed, varnished with an ebonised sealer and finally coated with an exterior varnish. The resulting burnt with visible grain aesthetic was a perfect match to the hotel building’s exterior.

To produce the beams raised grain effect, the beams were  charred using a roof burner, before being wiped down with a wire brush. The process hardens the grains, whilst removing the soft surface charcoal. It results in the grain feeling very prominent when touched, and the beams looking more ‘wood like’.

Making spaces more aesthetic, more functional and more beautiful.

Introducing a beautiful, spalted beech tripod stool. 

Jointed and turned top, with stunning grain, rounded for smooth finish. Sits upon tripod leg stand, made from solid beech. 

Finished in a polishing oil. 

Combining Oak, with its knots and blemishes intact, and copper, the piece brings together the natural and the industrial to beautiful effect.

Brushed copper rods form the shelves, while the ends of each bench also have some copper features.

Rather than leave the meeting point of these two benches as dead space, a side table was designed, and it can be removed to be used wherever and whenever the user feels. 

Featured is our Solid Oak Bar Table, commissioned by The Wine Press Wine Bar.

Made from American White Oak, the table is composed of a solid jointed top, upon for thick biscuit jointed legs. The table was finished in a dark oak stain, and given a spray coat of lacquer in our factory's very unique spray shop.
